What is Rotary?

Rotary is a global network of 1.4 million people who, for more than 110 years, have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. The Rotarians always work to improve our world, from literacy and peace to water and health challenges.

The Rotary Club Budapest-City is Hungary's premier, international English- speaking Rotary Club. The membership is made up of an exclusive network of diverse, passionate individuals united in the goal of taking action to create lasting change. We, the club members are committed to improving lives through our local and international work, a reputation the Club is extremely proud of.

The Rotary Club Budapest-City was chartered on 21 July 1995 as Club No. 30.962 of Rotary International. It is a 100% Paul Harris Fellow club and is a non-profit organization. Mrs Magda Kertész , the wife of Imre Kertész , was a charter member of the Rotary Club Budapest-City and was the first female Club President (1997-1998). Mr Imre Kertész , the Hungarian author and recipient of the 2002 Nobel Prize for Literature, was an honorary member of the Rotary Club Budapest-City.

At present, In Hungary there are more than 55 active Rotary Clubs. As of 2023, the Rotary Club Budapest-City has 17 members, of which are five ladies and twelve gentlemen respectively. The composition of members is somewhat unique as members represent 11 nations.
