Magda Kertész (1942 - 2016)

Magda Kertész was a charter member of the Rotary Club Budapest-City and was the first female club President (1997-1998) in what was then District 1910.

Imre Kertész (1929 - 2016)

Imre Kertész was an honorary member of the Rotary Club Budapest-City and was the husband of Magda Kertész. Imre Kertész was a Hungarian author and recipient of the 2002 Nobel Prize for Literature. He was the first Hungarian to receive the Nobel in Literature.

Both Magda and Imre Kertész were dedicated Rotarians who valued bringing people together.

Imre Kertész would have celebrated his 90th birthday on 9 November 2019. Coincidentally, this date also marks anniversaries of the failed Putsch coup, Kristallnacht and the fall of the Berlin Wall. To honour the Kertész’s pursuit of awareness around the Nazi Holocaust, dictatorship and personal freedom, the Rotary Club Budapest-City has decided on this memorial to Imre Kertész.
